Jane N. Ferguson, 91, beloved widow of 63 years of John ‘Jack’ Ferguson, of Rocky Hill and formerly of Wethersfield, entered into God’s care on Monday, October 9, 2023. Jane was born in Syracuse, New York and was daughter to the late Walter and Ruth (Haight) Nuhn.
Jane grew up in Wethersfield, Connecticut and while attending Teacher’s College of Connecticut, met the love of her life, Jack. Jane graduated from Teachers College of Connecticut (CCSU) and was employed by Wethersfield Board of Education as a teacher for several years and later taught English as a second language.
Jane and Jack were active members of the Wethersfield United Methodist Church for many years and cherished their church family.
Jane and Jack much enjoyed their family and friend's vacations, especially winters in Florida. They were avid tennis players at Pine Acres Swim Club, loved a great game of golf and were long time members of Wethersfield Country Club, enjoyed a good game of bridge and knew how to throw a good party with their numerous friends. Jane also loved music and enjoyed playing her piano (even though Jack complained he couldn’t hear his basketball game).
Most of all, Jane cherished time with her family, and will be deeply missed by those who knew her as a selfless, giving and compassionate soul who would “give you the shirt off her back”.
Later in life, she enjoyed a new chapter of her life at the Atria in Rocky Hill and was responsible for organizing bridge games, playing bingo and loved her Friday outings with her daughter, Lynda, and dinners at her granddaughter Laurie’s home.
She leaves behind her loving daughters, Nancy Ptak (Peter) of Wethersfield, Connecticut and Lynda Ferguson of East Hampton Connecticut, beloved granddaughter, Laurie Vargas (Rafael), of Wethersfield, her special great granddaughter, Alexa Vargas, her “golden girl” and great grandson, Lucas Vargas, as well as her bonus great granddaughter, Shania Vargas. She also leaves behind her brothers in law, Donald Ferguson, of Colorado, and Grant Ferguson, of Georgia, her special dog, Rosie, and several dear friends.
Family and friends are invited on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. to the Wethersfield United Methodist Church, 150 Prospect Street, Wethersfield, Connecticut. Burial will follow at Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. There are no calling hours. Messages and tributes can be shared on www.desopofuneralchapel.com. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel was entrusted. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to the Wethersfield United Methodist Church or a charity of your choosing.
