Francesca Maria (Chirico) Mastroianni, 81, beloved wife of Tommaso Mastroianni passed away peacefully on February 18, 2022 surrounded by her family. They had just celebrated 60 years of marriage. Francesca was born on May 24, 1940 in Pianopoli, Province of Catanzaro, Italy, daughter of the late Giuseppe and Clotilde (Torcia) Chirico.
In addition to her husband, she will be greatly missed by her children, Frances Mastroianni of Wethersfield, Anthony (Nancy Fitzgibbon) Mastroianni of Rocky Hill, and Joseph (Maureen) Mastroianni of Glastonbury. She will be especially missed by her cherished grandchildren who were the loves of her life, Matthew, Madelyn, Beverly and Juliana Mastroianni. They will miss their Nonna very much. In addition, she leaves her sisters, Concetta (Tommaso) Colaccino of Italy, Maria (Angelo) Vignone of Rocky Hill and Claudia (Salvatore) Piccione of Italy along with her numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends; each one had a special place in her heart. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Teresa Gallo, and Lidia Caruso.
Francesca will always be remembered for her warmth, generosity and ever-present smile. She was always willing to help and lend her sound advice that made you feel reassured and protected. No one will ever forget her hearty laugh and great sense of humor. She has left us with many sayings and expressions that we all continue to incorporate in our everyday conversations. She loved the beach and enjoyed spending times with family and friends “al mare”. Francesca was very talented and creative and over the years she spent many hours embroidering, crocheting, sewing, baking, scrap booking, decorating cakes and creating beautiful sugar Easter eggs. Francesca was an amazing cook, she truly enjoyed creating delicious meals from scratch for her family to enjoy especially for holiday gatherings. She always had room at her table if someone happened to stop by. In recent years, she enjoyed taking drives with her husband and often stopped to picnic or feed the birds by the Rocky Hill ferry. Francesca was a wonderful and kind woman and she will be missed by all who knew her.
For 23 years, she proudly worked for Hartford Hospital’s special functions. Francesca was an extremely dedicated worker and was respected by many of her colleagues. During her career, she made many lifelong friends. She was a member of the St. Cristina/Mt. Carmel Society and the Sons of Italy. She and her husband enjoyed attending many of the social events hosted by these organizations.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. The funeral Mass will be livestreamed via the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel Facebook Page. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Calling hours and burial will be private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, 79 Retreat Avenue,
