Donald N. Molchan, 84, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Helen L. (Turrill) Molchan, passed away at home on Sunday, (December 7, 2008), after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on November 13, 1924 in New Britain, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Anna (Yarosik) Molchan. He attended New Britain schools and graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Business. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Mr. Molchan spent his entire working career at Stanley Tools, Division of The Stanley Works, holding several executive positions, and retired at the end of 1989 as Vice President of Sales. During his career he was a member of the National Sales and Marketing Executives Association of America. He served as a member on the Board of Directors of the National Hardware Marketing Council. He served on several National Hardware Industry committees in a leadership role. He served as a member of the Board of Directors at Red Devil, Inc. Don loved the game of golf and was a member of the Wethersfield Country Club for 40 years. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and during his retirement years they spent a considerable amount of time traveling extensively to a number of countries in many parts of the world. Don had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, and as a gifted storyteller, he delighted in making other people laugh. He derived great pleasure in reading. Though he enjoyed selected fictional authors, his primary interest was in the writings of prominent political and economic thinkers. He enjoyed a thought provoking debate and was always ready to challenge economic or political concepts he questioned. He also enjoyed reading and writing poetry. Besides his wife of 53 years who served as a devoted caregiver, he is survived by three sons; Jeffrey Molchan of Fairfield, David Molchan and his wife Catherine of Radnor, PA and Richard Molchan and his wife Linda of Westwood, MA; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Emily, Jack, Michael, Christopher, Katherine and Erin Molchan. He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. A celebration of Don's life will be held Saturday, December 13, from 2-5 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield, CT 06109. Burial will be private.
