Carmel (Pandozzi) Gregg, 90, of Rocky Hill, loving wife of the late Winfield “Bill” Gregg, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. Carmel was born October 23, 1931 and raised in Hartford, one of two daughters to the late Arthur and Josephine (Bailardo) Pandozzi. She attended Hartford schools, graduating from Hartford Public High School, Class of 1949. She continued her education at St. Joseph’s College, earning her Bachelor of Science in Education. Carmel had a long successful career in education as a social worker, teacher, and Spanish translator. Carmel and Bill were married in 1973 and enjoyed 29 years together until Bill’s passing in 2002. Carmel was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. James Church in Rocky Hill. She was a nature lover who especially loved birds; she owned several parakeets, her last one being her most beloved named Sunshine. She also enjoyed hiking with her husband Bill at McLean Game Refuge in Granby.
Carmel will be forever remembered by her sister, Rose P. Frascarelli of Rocky Hill; her stepdaughter, Lynn H. Remington and her husband Bill; her stepdaughter-in-law, Nancy Gregg; her niece, Teresa Johnson and her husband Ted; three nephews, Arthur Frascarelli and his wife Judy, John A.S. Frascarelli and his wife Julie and Joseph Frascarelli and his wife Beth, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Carmel was predeceased by a brother-in-law, John Frascarelli; her stepson, Spencer Gregg and her infant brother, Callistus. Special thanks to the staff at Avery Heights for the care and compassion shown to Carmel during her stay.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects to the family on Monday, October 3, from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Following the calling hours, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. James Church of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Interment will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery (Section Y), Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carmel’s memory may be made to the Audubon Society, 613 Riversville Road, Greenwich, CT 06831.
