I logged onto FB for the first time in a long time and saw that today was your birthday. I miss you and our friendship so much. I was so happy to be your honorary big and help you when it came time for your own big-little week. Dan, Tural, and I often reminisce about all of the fun times we had together. Sending a lot of love to your family and loved ones today and every day. You were one of a kind and the world is less bright without you here.

I have fond memories of play dates with him and Anna and our kids playing at the Smith School playground and stream.  He was such a sweet boy. I remember his love of baseball.

Zach was always helping out in the community!

I have so many memories of Zach from middle and high school. He was always an incredibly calming and balanced presence with a seemingly endless capacity for kindness. I remember in middle school, he had a habit of apologizing for things that weren't even his fault, or weren't an issue. We would often have a back and forth where I'd demand he "Stop apologizing" and he'd say "Oh ok, sorry", which would wind up making both of us laugh. I'm a better person for having grown up knowing Zach, and I'm so grateful to have had the privilege of being his friend. 

Zachary and I met in our freshman year at George Washington University. We both entered school wanting do dedicate ourselves to serving others and the world, and that’s how we became instant friends. He was so kind and helpful to everyone around him. I remember our food adventures around Georgetown, our talk about joining the Peace Corps in Metro Center, and our late night walks around the National Mall. Zachary, I miss you and I’m heartbroken you left us so soon. My condolences to Zachary’s family and loved ones. 

I knew Zach from his brief time at GWU. We were in the same community service organization. But past that I knew him as a kind, gentle, and goofy nerd who could be counted on as a boardgame or videogame buddy. To this day, when I play The Witcher or Dominion, I remember learning and playing these games for the first time with him. Much love to the Blair family. Zach spoke fondly of you.

Dear Kathy and Greg, your hearts are broken, I know. Take good care of yourselves and your daughter during this dark time. All of your memories of Zachary go forward with you. I remember through discussions with Kathy, Zachary's early love for computer technology and his fine mind. This is a great loss to you, and no words will help, only time. Take care

Zach was one of my closest friends growing up. We became friends through scouts and experience many adventures together. Play dates in elementary school, attending NJ Jackals games, sharing a tent on camping trips, earning tons of merit badges together and doing several community service projects together. After high school Zach and I didn’t really keep in touch but would cross paths because our mothers worked together. We never made plans but talked about getting together to throw a frisbee or do something to catch up. I regret not making more of an effort to stay in touch and wish I had another opportunity to hangout with him. I will miss him greatly and the Blair family is in my thoughts and prayers. I wanted to express my sincere condolences to the entire family. I will always remember Zach as one of the best pages ever at the Hillsdale Library. He was always polite, friendly and totally efficient. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

We have many fond memories of Zachary sharing playdates with Evan and going with us to the Land of Make Believe.  He also attended pre-school with Evan at  the Pascack Valley Co-operative Nursery School in Park Ridge, NJ and much fun and memories were made there.

All of us at the SADS Foundation would like to extend our deepest condolences. Zachary seems like he was an amazing young man. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers. 

I feel so lucky and so blessed to have known Zach. He was kind, generous, thoughtful, brilliant, and an absolute joy to be around. I owe so much of who I am to his kindness and his presence in my life. I will forever treasure our memories of proms and lunches and day-trip adventures. He has left such a mark on everyone who knew him, and he is missed immensely. I am so sorry for your loss.

Zach was an intelligent, polite, respectful, and hard working young man.  These qualities made him an exemplary Eagle Scout.  He served as a mentor to the younger scouts in our troop and was always one of the first to volunteer to help with the troop projects.  He will be missed.

When I think about Zach, one of the first things that comes to mind is how he would always thank me for "letting" him "tag along with Blair" whenever we did something. But there was never any thanks needed, because my childhood friendship with Blair had gifted me with a second family and another brother.

I was lucky enough to join them on a road trip a few summers ago. On the way down, there was a point where Z and I were the only two awake... he was driving, I was in the passenger seat, and both of us would swear, this one bird flew directly at us. He's the only person I know of that could have managed to avoid it, and after a few moments of stunned silence, he started to softly chuckle, and then full on laugh, and then both of us were struggling to stay quiet enough to not wake everyone else, it was just so surreal. Maybe we were just slap-happy after 8 hours on the road, but there was something so inexplicably ridiculous about the whole situation, and the fact that we were the only two witnesses to it. We deemed it the "kamikaze bird" and every time after that, when he drove somewhere, I thought of that moment.

There were countless nights spent sitting in their dining room playing I think just about every board game in the Blair-Abney household. Dominion and Munchkin were definitely two of the favorites, and whenever there was an impromptu joint attack on another player... his laugh was contagious. It always started as a smile, like he was holding it back, until he couldn't anymore, and by that point we were all gone.
Zach's smile could light up a room. I found comfort in him just as much as I did in my own brothers, and it was an honor to spend all of these years with him by my side. I'm forever grateful to have had him in my life.
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you're loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.

Zach was a sweet boy and was a pleasure to coach and be around.  He will be missed greatly and I know he's in a better place.  May God bless the Blair family in their time of need and prayers go out to them.

Dearest Kathy, Greg and Blair - Zachary was the kindest and most gentle young man I have had the privilege of caring for.   I fondly remember his visits to the Smith Health Office when he would stop at the door asking permission to enter and then ask the other students how he could help them.  What a gem of a human being!  All of you are in my daily thoughts and prayers.  Heaven has gained an angel.  May God bless and watch over you.

Zach was honestly the most kind hearted  person I have ever met.  My admiration of Zach started when he was in kindergarten with my son.  They became friends right away and our families have been friends ever since.  Watching Zach learn and grown from a cub scout to an Eagle Scout was such a privileged of ours.  Zach truly made the world a better place, just by being himself.  Zach was a gentle giant and I will always love him and hold him in my heart.  My deepest sympathies to his wonderful family.  Our hearts are breaking. Rest easy my little cub scout. We love you!
