Murphy, John E., of Twp. of Washington, NJ passed away on Saturday, March 17th. Born in Belfast, Ireland in 1938 and raised in the Bronx, John is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Margaret, and his brother, Tommy. John reunites in heaven with his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Maureen. He is survived by his loving children: Eileen Owens; Carol Carey; Jack and his wife Mary Anne; Maureen Madigan and her husband Michael; and Jimmy and his wife Susan. He was adored by his grandchildren: Frankie and Madeline and their father John Owens; Fiona, Áine and Aidan and their father Gerard Carey; Trevor Murphy; Alana and Elyse Madigan; and Emma and Ava Murphy. John will be greatly missed by his brother Billy & wife Peggy, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. After serving in the U.S. Navy, John had a long, successful career at Con Edison, retiring in 1999 after over 40 years. John was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus #5427, as well as O.L.G.C. R.C. Church. John enjoyed his Irish and country music; camping, fishing and travelling; but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren. A Irishman with a great sense of humor, John had a knack for timing, and his passing on Saint Patrick’s Day cannot go unnoticed. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Sunday from 3-7PM. The Funeral Mass celebrating John's life and faith will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, Twp. of Washington, NJ on Monday at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in John’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Knights of Columbus Council #5427.
