Chester Francis, 71, of Hackensack, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024. He was born in Johnstown District in the parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica, to Violet Patterson and Roland Francis who are both deceased. He was the beloved husband of Michelle Francis and the devoted father of Georgia Francis. He was the dear brother of 15 siblings: Polly, Jamsey, Louise, Ray, Evelyn, Brenda, Doreth, Roy, Louise, Hubert, Dimple, Laurel, Tex, Cherry and Barry. He was a loving grandfather to Odain, Amoy, Jamoy, and Jeffrieca. He is survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and business associates.
Chester left Jamaica at an early age to pursue a career in tailoring and fashion after first learning how to sew from his mother and later being under the apprenticeship of his uncle William who owned a business in Morant Bay. Chester worked as a tailor in many men’s clothing stores, became a district manager for Men’s Warehouse, and later owned West End Cleaners in Westwood. He then owned businesses in Valley Fair and National Wholesale Liquidators. Violet’s Men’s Fashions is his latest business located in Saddle Brook and lovingly named after his dear mother.
A visitation for Chester will be held Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675. A funeral mass will occur Monday, January 15, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, 400 Maywood Avenue, Maywood, NJ 07607. A committal service will occur Monday, January 15, 2024, from 12:30 PM to 12:45 PM at Garden of Memories, Soldier Hill Road, Twp. of Washington, NJ 07676.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chester’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
