“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die, and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” John 11:25-26
Our beloved son, brother, uncle, brother-in-love, nephew, and friend returned home to Jesus in the early hours of July 23, 2021. Born to Jonnica and Craig on September 19, 1980, DeAndre gave us 40 years of beautiful memories that we will forever hold close to our hearts.
To know DeAndre was to love him; he was an experience, truly one-of-a-kind, and marched to the beat of his own drum. DeAndre had true childlike joy oozing from every pore. He was always happy and had a heart of gold. He was so caring, thoughtful, gracious, and had a deep love for everyone–especially his mom, brother, and nieces. He had compassion for those in need and would often stop to purchase food for those he saw hungry. He was always giving and put people ahead of himself. DeAndre was shy, but if you got him talking about his favorite team—the Chargers— BBQ, music—especially Reggae—or animals, he would talk for hours.
DeAndre lived for vacations and traveling to new places. He’d announce after every trip that it was the “best trip ever” and would move there one day. He would often disappear to Las Vegas or Catalina Island. DeAndre loved playing the bass guitar, camping with friends, fishing, swimming, and being in and around the water. He collected baseball cards, pocket knives, and had an impressive coin collection. His biggest love included animals; he had turtles, frogs, fish, and his beloved cat, Margarita.
DeAndre was an amazing uncle. His eyes would light up when he saw his nieces, and he wanted nothing more than to hang out with them and shower them with his love. He was a wonderful brother. He was always so proud of his younger brother, his accomplishments, and the man he had become. DeAndre was the son every mother dreams of. He never caused any trouble, was a good kid, and wanted nothing more than for her to be happy. He loved spending time with his mom; he came to her house every day to check on her and make sure she was okay.
DeAndre accepted Jesus as a young man. We know that although he is no longer present with us, that he is with Jesus. DeAndre is survived by his mother Jonnica, step-father Jeff, brother Darryl (Shelbi), nieces Canyon and Quinn, uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Craig Martin, and cousin Dontae Willams.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021, at 2:30 pm at Westminster Memorial Park and Mortuary, 14801 Beach Blvd. Westminster, CA 92683. On Thursday, August 12, 2021, a viewing will take place from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the same location as the funeral.
