Lida B Crubaugh passed away peacefully at age 90 Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Sage Mountain Senior Living in Thousand Oaks. She lived in Westlake Village from 1972 until November 2022. She was born December 9, 1932 on a farm near Marquez, TX the fourth child of the late Clark E and Edna A (Hennard) Newsom.
Upon completing high school in 1951 Lida moved to Houston. After several brief work experiences, she met Gene E Crubaugh on a blind date during March 1953. He was stationed at a nearby Air Force base, scheduled to become an Air Force officer in September. They married at the base chapel on November 8, 1953 and during the next twenty years had two sons while moving back and forth between Texas and California as Gene went to college and worked in the aircraft industry in both states.
Upon moving to Westlake Village, Lida decided that she wanted to see the world! After working at several travel agencies, she opened Encore Travel in Woodland Hills in 1980. As a true Sagittarian, Lida traveled to over eighty countries until she finally closed her business in 2018.
Lida’s three older siblings – Reaves, Martha and Joe are deceased. She is survived by her husband of almost seventy years; two sons, Thomas (Christine) Crubaugh of Aptos, CA and Robert (Gina) Crubaugh of Thousand Oaks; grandchildren, Paul Crubaugh of Corralitos, CA, Emily Gorelick (Jason) of Oakland, CA, Loren Goodwin of Oakland, Alex (Katy) Walker of La Selva Beach, CA and Daniel Crubaugh of Thousand Oaks; and great grandchildren, Zoe Gorelick, Samuel Walker and Barrett Walker.
A memorial service will be held at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary, 5600 N Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM at the nearby gravesite, followed by a reception at 3:30 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 32111 Watergate Road, Westlake Village.
