Dorothy Keen Robinson was born to Percy “Billy” and Anna Keen in Los Angeles, CA on February 10, 1929. Dorothy grew up in Los Angeles, attending Carthay Center Elementary School, Louis Pasteur Junior High, and Hamilton High School. After graduating from high school, she went on to earn a business degree from the University of Southern California.
Upon graduating from USC, Dorothy worked as Stationery Department Manager for Robinson’s Department Store, downtown Los Angeles. She was then transferred to the Beverly Hills store.
In 1953, Dorothy married Richard “Dick” Robinson. Dick was the “boy across the street” and her brother Walter’s best friend. Dick’s job took them first to Seattle, WA, where their two children, Don and Jan were born. Shortly thereafter, they moved to North Attleboro, MA.
In 1961, Dick died in an automobile accident. In 1964, Dorothy and the children moved back to CA, and settled in Thousand Oaks.
Dorothy devoted her life to raising her two children. While raising her children, she was very active in PTA and always volunteered in the school library.
When her children were grown, Dorothy went back to work as a substitute school librarian. She eventually became a full time Librarian in the Conejo Unified School District. She spent the majority of her time at Glenwood Elementary School, from which she eventually retired.
Dorothy was active in many clubs and organizations, including American Association of University Women (AAUW), her college sorority AOII, Conejo Valley Republican Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, Newcomers/Encore, Christian Woman’s Club and Bunco.
Dorothy is survived by her son Donald (Christine) Robinson, and her daughter Janet Robinson.
She is also survived by her two granddaughters and their husbands, Jaymie Robinson & Rob McPherson and Jessica Robinson & Andy Neumerkel, as well as two great grandsons, Cameron McPherson and Logan Neumerkel. And last but not least, her grand pup…Gracie Marie Robinson.
