It was the culmination of a life filled with great love, laughter, family, friends, and being the ultimate party and holiday gathering hostess - Patty loved a good party!
Patty was born in New York in 1934 to Gladys and George Wolkiewicz. She grew up in Queens, part of a large Polish extended family and older sister to George, Paul, and John. She attended Jamaica High School where she was part of the Varsity group - foreshadowing a life as the ultimate cheerleader for anyone she came in contact with. After graduating, Patty went to work for the New York Telephone Company in Flushing where lifelong friends were made, and a new tradition was started of meeting at a different friends home each month for a "coffee klatch".
The family moved to the suburbs in 1953 to a new housing community in Hicksville, which became the Wolkiewicz family home for the next 40+ years. Upon moving, Patty transferred to the Levittown office for the phone company where, through new friends, she would say "yes" to a blind date, meeting the love of her life, Jack McCarthy.
Pat and Jack got married in May of 1957, moved to Old Westbury and raised their family, John, Susan, and Bill. Patty loved to bowl, participating in a league for years - she even got Susan to take up the game and join her league! She also came to enjoy the game of golf with Jack. They retired to Florida in 2001, continuing to enjoy time with friends, visits from the family and golf.
Patty is survived by her husband Jack, children John, Susan (David), and Bill (Maggie); Grandchildren Sara, Jack (Brittany), Matt, Michael, and Brian and great-grandchild Collin; Brothers George (Barbara), Paul (Kathy) and John (Barbara) along with many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
The family would like to thank the staff at Arthur's Place, The Normandy Care Center in Rocky River, Ohio for their loving care of Mom over these past 5 months.
OK, let's go...
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.corrigancraciunfuneralhome.com for the McCarthy family.
