On August 19th, 2022 Conchita Jaurigue Oba peacefully passed away shortly after celebrating her 95th birthday with family and loved ones. Conchita lived her life with stoic grace and fortitude. She was born in Sta. Clara, Sto. Tomas, Batangas, Philippines to Leonardo and Magdalena Jaurigue. As the fourth sibling in a family of 8, she was a dutiful daughter who helped care for younger siblings and her mother later in life. In 1981, she and her late husband, Rodrigo Oba, immigrated with four of their children to Vancouver, BC, Canada. She would go on to split her time between Vancouver and the Philippines, devoting herself to the care of family, including many grandchildren.
She is survived by her brother, Mario (Kate); seven children, Zenaida (Dante), Nelson (Amy), Roger (Emie), Eva (Jim), Walter (Felicia), Wilma (Val), and Louie (Grace); chosen daughter, Beata (Rick); 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and, an extensive extended family. As the matriarch of the family, she will be deeply missed and remembered for her quiet strength and patience to bear life's challenges, guidance and wisdom, and kind heart.
