He was born in Provo Utah on July 20, 1949, the son of Keith and Erma (Stephens) Evans. Because Steve’s dad worked for Western Union, he was raised in Ogden (UT), Reno (NV), Portland (OR), and Pocatello (ID). He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1967 where he was the Student Conductor for the Pocatello H.S. band and orchestra. He attended Idaho State University and LDS Business College. Steve served a mission for the LDS Church in Illinois and Wisconsin from 1968-1970. He married Jane Williams in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 17, 1971. Steve and Jane grew their family including sons Keith (Caroline), Jake (Jerrica), Andy (Jenni), and daughter Sarah. During this time, Steve worked for the LDS church as a microfilming supervisor for 40 years where he made many life-long friends. Steve loved all sports, especially baseball and if his kids or grandkids were playing. He served wherever he was called, including Elders Quorum, Bishopric Counselor, Bishop, Stake Executive Secretary, and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. He was also able to serve an inner-city mission, a full time mission in the Salt Lake City West Mission with his wife Jane, and was an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. He loved his Savior Jesus Christ, “well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
Survived by his wife Jane, children Keith (Caroline), Jake (Jerrica), Andy (Jenni), and Sarah, and his greatest treasures, his grandchildren Elise (Jonathan), Joshua, "Elder" Graehl, Gabby (Sam), Aaron, Ava (John), Lily, Brie, Camille, Audrey, and Turner. They were the light of his life. He also leaves behind his two sisters Kaye Storey and Rita (Lowell) Nelson. Also many dear nieces, nephews, special cousins, and friends. He will be dearly missed, but he is reunited with his parents.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, Rocky Mountain Hunter Hollow Care Center, and Canyon Hospice for their kind care of him during the last few months.
