Norman A. Pobanz, age 92, of Taylorsville, Utah, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024, in Taylorsville, Utah. Born on October 26, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Norman was the son of Arthur and Martha Pobanz.
After attending East High School, Norman enlisted in the Navy, serving with distinction. His service took him to Alaska (2 years) and then to Hawaii, where he was stationed for two years. During his time in the Pacific, he traveled extensively between Hawaii and Japan, often navigating the perilous waters near Korea. Despite frequent shelling, his ship remained unscathed.
Following his naval service, Norman married his sweetheart, Carma Nielsen on June 11, 1954. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring love and commitment.
In retirement, Norman embraced his passions with vigor. His adventurous spirit led him to hike, snowshoe, ride motorcycles, and backpack across diverse landscapes. A highlight of his adventurous life was spending his 70th birthday at base camp on Mount Everest, a remarkable testament to his spirited approach to life.
Norman's life was a tapestry of service, love, and adventure. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of courage, devotion, and enthusiasm for life will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Norman is survived by his loving wife Carma; daughters, Shelly Robison and Robbin (Dayle) Street.
