A descendant of Utah Pioneers, Dorothy was born January 10, 1918. She is the Granddaughter of Lehi Nephi Hardman and Francis Ann Coon and the youngest of 12 children born to Jacob Hardman and Charlotte Hannah Dearden. Dorothy was briefly married to Stan Longfelt early on and Don "Doc" McAffee in her later years just prior to his death, but spent over 51 years alongside her eternal companion, Leo Bruce Sparks, whom she was married to from 1946-1998 and sealed to in the Los Angeles LDS Temple in 1975. Ever adventurous, they lived in many places, among them the Salt Lake Valley and Monticello, Utah as well as Arcadia, Laguna Beach and San Marcos, California where her love of the beach led to many happy times and fond memories there with family. Most recently, Dorothy resided in Mesa, Arizona. Her life was filled with beauty as her joy came from admiring and painting scenes from nature, enjoying songs and dances from her youth at Salt Air, and filling her time creating beautiful relationships with friends and family. She was strong in her faith and strength. Though a single mother at the time, she was proud of her work efforts during WWII at Remington Arms Ammunition facility in Utah and at Hanford Engineer Works in Washington for the Army Service Forces Corps of Engineers War Department. She also enjoyed assisting with a Republican campaign in California, and sharing the faith and strength of her Pioneer ancestors as they courageously left the land they knew in England to come to Nauvoo and later help develop the land and strengthen the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Magna area. Always sharing a kind handshake or greeting people with a hug, Dorothy truly represented America's greatest generation through faith, strength, hard work, dedication, patriotism and kindness. She was recently honored and surrounded by friends and family who gathered to celebrate her 100th birthday with her. She is deeply loved by her 5 children; Bob (Arita) Sparks and daughters, Ron (Shelley) Sparks and sons, Jean Chatfield and children, Linda (Malcolm) Parrott and daughters, Judy (Nathan) Richards and children, her 19 Grandkids, 56 Great Grandkids and 11 Great-great Grandkids. Her presence here will surely be missed but no doubt there was rejoicing in heaven where loved ones greeted Dorothy as she likely danced her way through heavens gates.
