Benito proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, and was awarded the Purple Heart. While in the service, he met the love of his life Teresa Hernandez. They were married on October 21, 1969 and had 4 amazing sons.
Benito lived a life full of love, laughter, and generosity. He was always welcoming to family and friends, enjoying many laughs and memories. He was a devoted husband and his family was always at the center of his heart. He cherished the time spent with his loved ones, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched.
Benito had a passion for music. As a young man he played multiple instruments and was in a band with his father, uncles and cousins. He was an avid watcher of movies, loved writing and constantly learning. He was very fond of the many family pets throughout his life. Benito will be forever remembered for his kind and sarcastic nature, and his recognizable laugh.
Benito is survived by his wife of 53 years Teresa Sotelo, sons: Benito Sotelo Jr (Victoria Hatch), Gabriel Sotelo, Efraim Sotelo (Maya Sotelo) and Leonard Sotelo; grandchildren, Nico, Rissa, Ashley, Fiona, Angelina, Juliana and Elijah; brother, Ponciano and sister, Delores. Benito also had many nieces, nephews and people who considered him a father and grandfather.
Funeral services for Benito will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 1:00pm at the Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South in West Valley City, Utah, where friends may visit with the family on Friday evening from 6-8pm and again on Saturday from 12-1pm prior to the service. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
Following the funeral, the family will receive friends and loved ones at Efraim and Maya’s home from 5-8 PM. For location please contact the Family.
