In a turn of events no one predicted but many experienced, Andrew contracted COVID-19 in November 2021. After recovering from a relatively mild case of COVID, Andrew experienced complications with heart function and began to experience debilitating anxiety and panic attacks. Multiple efforts were made to alleviate these complications, which proved difficult. On May 18, 2022, Andrew succumbed to this debilitating anguish, taking his own life. He died at his home in Magna, Utah.
Andrew was born on August 27, 1983, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Carl and Kathie Davie Edgington (Anderson). He graduated from Cottonwood High school in 2002. He married Carlie Vandervaart (Adderley) in 2003. Together they were blessed with a daughter, Haylie Edgington (born in 2003). Following his divorce from Carlie, he met his wife Crystal Lewis in 2005 and became Dad to her son Ethan. They were married in 2015 after ten years together.
Andrew was a faithful believer in Christ and attended local Christian churches (most recently Mountain View Christian Assembly). He loved the Lord and often prayed for and with family, friends, and strangers. He shared his faith and conviction to help others with their challenges.
During his growing-up years, Andrew enjoyed being coached in baseball by his dad, Carl, and excelled as a pitcher. He enjoyed playing night games like Kick the Can and Capture the Flag and having sleepovers with friends. While he loved to tease his little sister Kim, he was also her biggest protector and always let her hang out with him and his friends.
Andrew was a kind, generous, and loving person. A “gentle giant,” he was quiet and somewhat shy but was also a stalwart protector and would never allow anyone to be bullied. The 2nd youngest of 6 children, his size made most people who knew him look up to him; his older siblings called him their “big little brother.” He was always thinking of others and their needs. He was always willing to give to others through prayer, financial help, and encouragement, and sought to help anyone he encountered.
He loved his nieces and nephews and treated them as his own. He was known for his many antics like jumping from the swings onto the trampoline, setting off fireworks, and shooting cans with his BB gun.
He was a devoted husband who loved his wife, Crystal, dearly. He was patient and kind and enjoyed traveling with her. He was in heaven when they went to their first Broncos game. He enjoyed family traditions like decorating for Christmas while wearing silly costumes; he loved Halloween parties and dressing up with the children. He was always looking for ways to have fun as a family.
He was a thoughtful gift-giver. His mom will miss his annual gift of Santa Claus figures. His brothers and sisters will miss his mischievous grin and the many pranks he would play on them. Andrew was a loving father and kept close contact with his daughter, Haylie, who he called “Buggie.” They enjoyed going to IHOP on Saturday mornings. They would have dance parties and compete for the loudest music. They enjoyed midnight drives to get ice cream and other treats.
He loved his stepson Ethan and taught him how to play basketball and how to drive. When Ethan was younger, they would turn the lights off in the house and have Nerf gun battles. Andrew encouraged him to follow his dream of becoming a police officer, which he now is. They loved cheering on the Denver Broncos together.
Andrew is survived by his wife, Crystal Lewis, daughter Haylie Edgington and step-son Ethan Andrus, Dad, Carl Edgington; Mom, Kathie (Don) Anderson; mother-in-law, Marsha Evans; his siblings, Chuck (Maria) Edgington, Jeff Edgington (JoAnn Pearson), David (Jana) Edgington, Kellie (Todd) Tyler and Kimberlie (TJ) Wilkins and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and members of his wife’s family, whom he loved dearly. He will be deeply missed.
