Born in West Palm Beach on August 22, 1940 to Estus Floy Bartholf and Brooks Holtzendorf Berrie, Patricia was one of nine children. She was predeceased by her parents, and siblings LeeRoy Matthew Berrie, Dolores Ann Berrie, Brooks Howell Berrie, Edward Lawrence Berrie, Gloria Berrie MacLean, and Joann Berrie Howard. She is survived by sisters Fern Berrie Farmer of Gurley, Alabama and Sandra Berrie Blacey of Lake Worth, Florida.
Patricia and Brad Marshall married in 1958 and had two children, Cathryn Marshall Miller and Kenneth Brooks Marshall. After raising their children, Patricia and Brad ended their marriage but not their family or friendship.
A proud student of the “school of hard knocks”, as she would say, Patricia was a tireless worker, and enjoyed successful careers in fashion and later, in real estate. Patricia graduated from and taught at Maezie Murphy Kline Studios before serving as the charm and modeling instructor for the YWCA of Palm Beach County for seven years. A stunning beauty, she modeled in print and television, from Palm Beach to New York—starring in ads for Polaroid, Exxon, Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Pepsi. After starting as a house model at Saks Fifth Avenue, she went on to appear in Vogue magazine.
A woman ahead of her time, she also co-owned an eyelash boutique cleverly named Custom Eyes, where lashes were expertly, individually applied.
Owner of Patricia Marshall Real Estate, Inc. for the majority of her career, she gained trust from the business community and clients. She proudly served as president of the local Board of REALTORS.
One of her family’s favorite memories was when she went skydiving to promote the Palm Beach Skydiving club (founded by her husband, Brad Marshall). She jumped all by herself, and landed on the roof of a house, spraining her ankle. All in all, a total success!
The ultimate meet cute turned into the love of their lives, when Patricia found herself in Dr. Richard Maltzman’s chiropractic practice following an injury. For forty-five years, they remained devoted partners, enjoying a life rich in loving kindness and laughter.
Her greatest joys were her grandchildren, Marshall Pitts, Amanda Pitts (Halladay), Molly Miller, and great-grandchildren Alexander Pitts, Maxwell Pitts, and Edith Halladay. They loved her deeply and shared a special bond with their #2 mom, and their GG, as she was lovingly called. She was the matriarch, a trusted advisor and family leader.
Patricia Marshall lived her life by her own rules, shattering glass ceilings along the way. Those who knew her best know that she died by her own rules as well, always wishing to make her decisions after a full analysis of the data. A devoted Christian, Patricia will be missed by her family and all who knew as she enters the Kingdom of Heaven.
