Matthew 5:8
Mary Virginia Carter was born on December 9, 1932, in Louisville, GA to the late John and Lister Wells. The family relocated to Savannah, GA where she attended public schools. In 1950 she married Rev. Dr. Theodore Roosevelt Carter, Sr., and was married 36 years until he preceded her in death on December 27, 1986. From this union three children were born.
Upon relocating to West Palm Beach, FL, along with her husband, she joined Gray’s Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in 1968. She was a loyal member and servant for 54 years. She loved her church and the Lord and she demonstrated that love through her many years of service on the Stewardess Board and her participation on a host of church committees and programs. Two of her favorite hymns were “I am Redeemed” and “I Won’t Complain”. Her love of God, her church and her family, were near and dear to her heart. As a testament to how much she loved and trusted God and the impact He had on her life, oftentimes, to anyone who was listening, she would always say, “Nobody can do you like the Lord”!
As the Matriarch, along with loving and supporting her family, she loved to cook and any dish that she made was everybody’s favorite. In addition to cooking, she also loved to bake, including pound cakes and sweet potato pies. Holidays, especially Thanksgiving, were special days in the Carter household. Her other hobbies included watching her soaps, specifically, The Young and the Restless and the Bold and the Beautiful.
She leaves her beloved family to cherish her memories: one son, Theodore Roosevelt Carter, Jr. (Cynthia) of Boynton Beach, FL; two daughters, Pamela Louise Singleton of West Palm Beach, FL and Gina Marie Gilley of Orlando, FL; eight grandchildren; Tasha D.
