James Luther Arendell “Lu”, 93, passed away on October 9th, 2021. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 66 years, Marguerite Arendell, “Peggy”. He is also survived by his daughters Gail Denise Arendell, Donna Lee Mullins, Catherine Mary Schroll, Patricia Ann Head, Sandra Marie Abrego, and his sons James Daniel Arendell, Scott Joseph Arendell, William Horton Vidor and all their significant others, Fred Mullins, John Schroll, Eric Head, Jerry Abrego, Jill Arendell, and Kim Vidor. He also left behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, cousins, and many beloved friends and extended family.
Lu was born to Jessie Eugenia and Charles Daniel Arendell in Athens, GA August 5th 1928. In 1935 he moved to West Palm Beach, FL and graduated from Palm Beach High School with the Class of 1947. He graduated from Palm Beach Junior College class of 1949. He served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Air Force. After his active duty with the USAF, he attended the University of Florida where he became a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Lu (WB4RLU) was a life member of the American Radio Relay League. He became interested in Ham Radio as a Boy Scout while earning his Eagle Scout rank. He was a life member of the Disabled Americans Veterans, and a Life member of West Palm Beach Elks Lodge 1352 BPOE, becoming its Exalted Ruler in 1983. Lu retired, after 20 years with the J.C. Penney Company. Lu and Peggy were active members of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, where they served as ushers. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, 13283.
Lu lived a life of service, joy and appreciation of the blessings life bestowed on him and his family. He found humor in many situations and enjoyed interacting and caring for people, especially the ones he loved. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on Nov. 5th at Quattlebaum Funeral Center at 5411 Okeechobee Blvd in West Palm Beach from 6 to 8 pm.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, the next day, Nov. 6th at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church 390 S Sequoia Dr, West Palm Beach, FL 33409. A private burial will take place later that day for the immediate family.
