(1936-2024)
Arthur P. Sullivan of North Palm Beach and Ocala, Florida, died after a prolonged illness on
September 22, 2024 at Jupiter Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of
Barbara Clahan and John T. Sullivan.
Art will be remembered as the long time owner of Sullivan Automotive Group with
dealerships in Ocala and throughout central Florida. He was educated at the Oratory
Preparatory School in Summit, New Jersey and Stetson University. In addition
to his successful business career, Art remained involved with Stetson University for
many years, serving on the Board of Trustees, establishing the Sullivan Creative Writing
Program and the Sullivan Writing Endowed Chair, and helping many students with both
academic and athletic scholarships.
Art will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his generosity.
He regularly contributed to Case Western Reserve University’s medical research
programs as well as local charities. He enjoyed traveling, often taking friends and relatives on
trips abroad. Since childhood when his grandfather taught him to fish, Art was an avid
fisherman, (once holding the world record for catching the largest Wahoo), and was happiest
being on the ocean in his boat “Silky”.
Art is survived by two sons, Sean Sullivan of Osprey, FL, and Peter Sullivan of North Palm
Beach; a third son, Arthur Timothy, died in childhood. He is also survived by his sister
Barbara Sullivan of Palm Beach as well as the children and grandchildren of his late brother
John Sullivan.
A funeral mass and a memorial service will be held in Ocala in early November at a date and
place to be determined. In lieu of flowers donations may be made either to the World Wildlife
Fund or to the Shriners Hospital for Children in memory of Timmy Sullivan.
