Alfredo Diaz Ruiz, Father, Grandfather, Husband, Brother, Friend, was born in Tapaste, Cuba on October 12, 1948 to Amado Diaz and Rosalia Ruiz. Alfredo was the youngest of six children: The 5 siblings were; Carlos, Marta, Ovidio, Amado, Gaspar. Alfredo loved his brothers and sister dearly. At a young age, he decided to join the Military Service in Cuba, where he studied for a career as a Diesel Mechanical Engineer. During his time of service, Alfredo was blessed with his first son Alfredo Daniel Diaz, and daughter Yida Diaz. Alfredo loved his children and looked forward to spending time with them, taking them to the zoo, carnivals, El Coppelia ice cream shop, and to the beach. He was a very adventurous person that loved music (his favorites’ were Rock, Country, Jazz, and Spanish Salsa). In the most challenging times of his life, Alfredo would put a smile to his face and choose to see only the positive of everything.
In 1979, Alfredo was confronted with the biggest decision of his life, which was to leave his mother siblings and children behind to go to the United States. As it is for millions of Cuban immigrants, starting his new life in the US with so many more opportunities was not an easy task, but Alfredo was ready. He worked very hard through all of the challenges that came his way, and made the best of every chase. He grew an enormous love for the United States and honored every minute of being an American.
On February 12, 1980, Alfredo married the love of his life Eusebia Diaz. Together they had one daughter Jennifer Lynn Diaz. He enjoyed spending his free time in the Nevada and Utah mountains hunting and fishing. In the winters, the family enjoyed Mountain Charleston snow, and in the summer, the family enjoyed vacations to Florida where the rest of the extended family resided. Alfredo enjoyed visiting Florida to spend time with his son and daughters, and always looked forward to visiting and enjoying his grandson Daniel and granddaughters Daniela and Natalie. Alfredo enjoyed fishing trips with his son. He always found a way to joke around and find laughter in every moment. He was truly a Bright Light to his kids and all who knew him.
In the late 1990’s, Alfredo relocated his family to Florida to enjoy all of the family. He enjoyed spending time with his brother Gaspar at the Mason Lounge in Fort Lauderdale. Alfredo Diaz took on the task of filling the role of father/grandfather for his four grandkids (Alfredo Jr., Roselyn, Jorge, and Kaitlyn) from his younger daughter Jennifer. He took on this role with so much honor. He left an amazing and lasting impression on their young lives. Although, helping to raise the 4 grandchildren meant moving back to Las Vegas, he found the way to ensure the larger family made a visit to see his daughter Yida with her kids (Daniela, Kaylee, and Jasmine) in Florida, and to Tennessee to see his son Daniel with his wife Astrid and kids (Daniel, Natalie, and Franky). Once retired, he enjoyed volunteering at the kid’s school, and participating in the dad-daughter dances with his granddaughter. He dropped off and picked up the kids, and spent hours helping them with homework. The amazing bond he had with his grandkids was unbreakable.
Unfortunately in 2019, Alfredo was diagnosed with a mass in his pituitary gland, as well as Lewy Body/Parkinson’s dementia. Throughout this difficult time, God allowed his family to make many more memories and enjoy him during his hospice and palliative care. Alfredo Diaz left this earth to fill his place in heaven with the same smile he always had to share with us – his beloved.
