Heaven Needed Mom
So many thing of Mom I miss –
Her gentle hug and tender kiss.
I can still feel her warm embrace,
And picture yet her loving face.
A mothers’ tasks are never done.
And Heaven must have needed one.
For angles came and took her hand
And led her to God’s promise land.
She’s surly kept quite busy there,
While brushing little angels’ hair.
And making sure they’re dressed just right.
Not staying out too late at night.
Although there’s sadness, this I know –
She’s waiting there, here face aglow.
I close my eyes and I can see –
Her arms still open, wide for me.
Born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, on April 12, 1938, last daughter to David and Matilda Rajnauth. Sister to Phillip, Silvia, Horace and Beulah ( Sister Bernadette of the Carmelite Sisters). Wife to Keniman Julian Sherman(predeceased loving husband), Mother ( Mumzie) to Lisa ( son-in-law Sebastian Garofalo) and Debbie ( son-in-law Chris Biagini). Proud grandmother (aka GranGran) to Paul ( Stefanie Garofalo), Carmelina, Alexandra, Samantha and Christian. Very special great grandmother to Sebastian and Alexa (Garofalo). Mom, is fondly remembered by all her nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family as well as close & dear friends.
After making the courageous move from her home in Trinidad, she arrived in Toronto in the early 60’s where she began her career as book keeper. Living in the same neighborhood at Leslie and Jones, it was not long after that she met and fell head over heels for the handsome “Frankie Avalon” looking young man & our father, Ken Sherman. This was followed by a short courtship and two baby girls soon after. She was a hard working woman and found success working at some of the top stock exchange brokers in Toronto. This was followed by her next position as an accountant in the finance department for the Federal Government where she worked until the early 80’s. Mom also had another calling and a very special gift with children. Known as “GranGran” to her adoring grand and great grandchildren. She was also truly a “Mary Poppins” and amazing nanny that impacted so many little children. Throughout her life God was a steadfast instrument and source of guidance. To those who had the honor of knowing her, knew she was quick to lend a hand to anyone in need, an ear to listen for anyone who was troubled and a never ending list of those she prayed for every day of her life.
She is honored today, as a remarkable woman, with a heart of gold, a warm smile, loving arms, an amazing friend to all, dedicated mother and grandmother. Mom will be remembered by all and we will all smile each time we speak her name, Love you Mumzie!
Lisa & Debbie xoxo
