Lorraine was born in Montreal, Quebec the youngest of 5 children. She moved to Labrador City with her family in 1963. While growing up and living in Labrador City Lorraine was active in a variety of sports, but softball was her favourite at which she excelled in as a pitcher. After graduating from high school, she attended the College of Trades and Technology in St. John’s Newfoundland from which she graduated and returned to Labrador City to begin a career with the Iron ore Company of Canada. In the mid eighties she moved out to join her older sister Kathy in Edmonton, Alberta where she resided and worked for several years before getting the itch to return to the east coast. After spending some time in St. John’s Newfoundland She moved to Toronto, once again reuniting with her older sister Kathy.
While working in Toronto Lorraine met and married Grant, the love of her life. Lorraine always had a deep passion for loving and caring for animals which led her to taking a position with the Guildcrest Cat Hospital. Lorraine worked to become a Veterinary Technician and loved her job, her employer, her co-workers her clients but most of all the countless cats that she cared for as if they were her own. In her own time, she looked after the cats of people who had to leave town. She developed a significant clientele and they and their cats thought the world of Lorraine and the care she provided.
Lorraine also became very involved with Weight Watchers and once again her circle of friends grew. A few years ago Lorraine became a football fan of the NFL and looked forward to Sundays and watching her beloved Minnesota Vikings with whom she became infatuated with because of their uniforms. Her favourite colour was purple. Lorraine’s interest in the game led her to joining a male dominated Football Pool in which she held her own.
The family would like to thank Dr. J. Yuh, Dr. R Singh and all the paramedics, nursing and medical staff at the Scarborough General Hospital for their warm and caring treatment during Lorraine’s illness and last few days.
A small Celebration of Life Memorial will take place at a future date to be determined. Keeping with Lorraine’s absolute love for cats, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cat Rescue Charity or animal shelter of your own choosing.
