Our beloved son and brother passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. Ian Stewart Clifford Kenneth Johns was born in Toronto, Ontario on November 16, 1971. The son of Clifford and Sandra (nee, Getson) Johns. He leaves behind his parents, sister Paula Johns and cherished dog Oliver who will miss him deeply.
Ian was an excellent athlete in wheelchair sports. He competed nationally in track and field and even won best male athlete in Miami. He most recently enjoyed tennis but took part in many sports over the years including downhill skiing, curling, rugby, sledge hockey, swimming, horseback riding, archery and basketball.
Being the kindhearted person he was, Ian frequently volunteered his time to multiple organizations. He had a passion for politics and assisted whenever possible during local elections and additional electoral events. Ian was a very social person with a great sense of humor; he was fond of cartoons, seafood dinners with the family, Toronto Maple Leaf games, traveling and shopping trips with his sister, especially the trips to Eaton Centre at Christmas time “the annual brother and sister shopping spree”. He will be remembered as a loving friend, brother and son who will be greatly missed by all.
A visitation for Ian will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will take place Friday, April 5, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM with a visitation period starting at 1:00 PM and a reception following the service, at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 4115 Lawrence Ave East, West Hill, ON M1E2S2.
In Lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Ian’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
