Enid Claire Williams (nee Baxter), age 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Scarborough Hospital in Ontario, Canada. She was a resident of Tony Stacey Centre for Veterans Care, located in Scarborough, Ontario since 2015; a caring and loving community.
Enid was born April 9, 1922, in Spanish Town, Jamaica to Aubrey Baxter and Sarah Ann Brailsford. The only daughter of Sarah Ann Brailsford, her fondest memories as a child were bringing her school friends to her mother’s bakery during lunch and eating cake.
Enid was an independent and strong woman before it was fashionable. Never a shrinking violet, often telling her daughter and granddaughters they can accomplish anything.
Her willingness to follow her own path ever apparent, she fearlessly ventured off with just a suitcase and a new coat (purchased by some friends) to another country after seeing a help wanted ad in the newspaper. Migrating more than 2,800 km (1,700 miles), she found her new home in Canada and never looked back. Here she married the late Crawford Williams and lived in Bay Ridge, Pickering, Ontario for over 60 years. She worked for the Ministry of Labour until her retirement. Never to be kept idle, Enid later found work as a school aide at Frenchman’s Bay School where she found her new love, working with children.
She loved the outdoors and her greatest passion was gardening. Enid enjoyed working in her garden and was not averse to the many compliments she received over the years on her beautiful flowers. When she was able, she enjoyed taking walks down by the lakefront and around the neighborhood.
Enid will be remembered with love.
The Philpotts-Kerr, Williams and Brailsford families would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the Tony Stacey Centre and the Scarborough Hospital for providing our dear Enid with loving care during her time in residence.
She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter Joyce Veronica Philpotts-Kerr (nee McFarlane)
Enid is survived by her son-in-law Bartholomew Philpotts-Kerr, granddaughters Deborrah (Lorenzo) Kerr-Lucero, Katherine (Alex) Acevedo, Elizabeth (Nicholas) Kerr-Smith; great-grandchildren Sarah, Nina, Ethan, Cameron, Jillian, Jeramiah and Jakob; nephew Albert (Gail) Williams, in addition countless cousins and extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Enid’s name to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Ontario, Canada.
