TORNEY, Donald Robert ~b. November 23, 1921 in Ottawa, ON d. October 30, 2010 in Picton,ON After a long battle with diabetes, Donald Robert Torney died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, October 30th 2010, in Picton, ON, late into his 89th year. Survived by Doreen V. (nee Hamblin), his wife of over 60 years, Roy, Diane, Peggy & (John) his children, his brother, D. Ralph Torney, his sister, E. Joan Wickham, & Georgie (nee Alexander) of Kingston, his step-mother, & his grandson Ryan M. Torney, of the Lord Strathcona. A long-serving member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and a veteran of WWII, Don was committed to the Living History program, visiting schools, and telling the younger generation about the last great war with firsthand accounts. In his health he was a secondary school teacher in Hamilton, and later in Scarborough as the head of Academics at Maplewood Vocational School. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 3rd at 1 p.m. at GIFFEN-MACK “SCARBOROUGH” FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 4115 Lawrence Avenue East (just west of Kingston Road) West Hill, 416-281-6800.
