Bernie had a loving, kind, and generous soul. He never failed to leave my family and I without a smile after every conversation. He inspired others through his art work and many stories. The memories we have with him will never be lost. 

 Carol, my brothers and I had the privilege of growing up next to you and Bernie. We could not be more grateful for your acceptance of us into your family. I always noticed how strong your love was for eachother and you extended that to everyone around you. I am so thankful to have had the experience of living next to you two my entire life. My heart is with you both.

Bernie was always so kind to us as his neighbours. His love of art inspired us and showed us his true passion. I will never forget the one time in the summer when we helped out with yard work, and Bernie came outside to thank us, he gave my brother and I two of his old watches. This shows the true character of Bernie and now, whenever I have the watch with me, I will think of him and treasure the memories. 

May he rest in peace, alongside angels.
His spirit will live on.

The memories I have of Bernie from my childhood will forever have a special place in my heart. He was a remarkable man and such a kind neighbour. I was always glad to see him outside our house because he had such a gentle and generous soul. He was very easy to talk to, and for as long as I can remember, he was a close friend to me. Bernie was also an incredible artist. He took the time to show me his art, and at times I struggled to believe that it was indeed his work. I remember thinking how lucky my family was to have him next door.

May Bernie's soul find eternal peace, and may we find strength in the memories we shared that connect us to him.

My deepest sympathy to you Carol in your loss of Bernie your gentle giant.  Enough words can not be said about the difficult times that you both went thru dealing with dementia.  My mind is racing along thinking of good moments the four of us had together of laughter, meals, singing Patsy Cline’s song “Crazy” and  much more.  Whether it’s a hearty laugh or a good cry these will help with your healing.  Remember this; that if you feel Bernie is close by don’t be afraid to say a few words to him “it works”.

Carol, our deepest condolences to you on the occasion of Bernie’s passing. May he rest in peace! Although our paths have not physically crossed in many a year, Marg and I often relive our days with you and Bernie cavorting in Montreal at the World’s Fair in ’67, our houseboat vacation in the 1000 Islands and on many fine  dining outings with the both of you in Montreal during those long ago years. I had the pleasure of working with Bernie at Dupont there as well. Although he is no longer physically with us, his memory will never fade. You, Carol, are also in our thoughts. Stay Strong.

Bernie will be sadly missed by all his neighbours on Bow Valley. As our neighbour for the last 23 years, Bernie was always quick to lend a hand, share a story, and tell a joke!
Bernie’s gentle nature made him a quick friend to all children and dogs in the community. His calm ways made it easy to pass the time in conversation.
Bernie’s generosity was inspirational and his legacy will live on through his many gifts (e.g: watches) that he shared with our family.
We are comforted in knowing that Bernie is free of pain now and no doubt enjoying a stroll with T-Bone, Sheeba and Camper.

Our children grew up knowing Carol and Bernie from the day they were born and told anyone who would listen that they « lived beside real life artists! » Bernie’s gentle nature and calm, easygoing demeanour were a gift; even the animals knew who to call a friend! 
Carol, together you have created a legacy that lives on as Bernie’s spirit runs freely with T-Bone, Sheba and Camper in heaven. We love you. Xo

Bernie has been a dear friend of our family for 50 years.  He came to Toronto to work on DuPont’s Pension assets with my husband Peter. Our family Steve,Kathy,& Janice got to know Bernie when he came to watch the games with Peter.  Soon he brought Carol , the love of his life . Bernie enjoyed his dogs , painting , & Go Train Group which led to many dinner outings with their wives. Camping & cottage life  in summer became important and in winter TV with friends.
We will miss you  Bernie .
