ALBERT (BERT) EDWARD O'HALLORAN One of the strongest men the world has known left us on October 18, 2011. What made Albert (Bert) Edward O'Halloran so remarkable was that his formidable strength was muted by the kindness of his spirit and love that he shared with his family and friends. Bert's journey started July 17, 1924 in St. Catharine's. The eldest of six children born to Frank and Viola O'Halloran, he was raised with life's important lessons engrained in him. Bert enrolled in the service at the earliest opportunity. A proud Veteran, he served in His Majesty's Royal Navy during World War II. A young bridesmaid caught his eye at a friend's wedding in which he was a groomsman. In two short years he managed to sweep Bernice off her feet and they were married in October 1946. The loving couple soon became proud parents of two beautiful girls, Vicki-Lyn and Viola Gay. Whether it was golf, his garden or a fishing rod, Bert was an outdoorsman through and through. A marksman with his 7 iron (he was known to have multiple hole-in-ones), an accomplished Horticulturalist (thrice winning the Trillium Award) and a distinguished member of the Order of Freemasons, everything Bert did, he did very well. To his grandchildren, Grandpa will always be remembered for being a fixture at any and every important event, always sitting with a clear line of sight at performances or right beside the ice. He often shared his life lessons and stories of his childhood and military service. Bert's journey ended on earth, surrounded by his family, the morning of October 18, 2011. Never forgotten by his loving wife Bernice, his brother Walter (Donna), children Vicki (Carl), Gay (Bill), grandchildren Joy aka Princess (Steve), Billy (Cherie), Kevin aka Rascal, Brianne aka Pixie (Mike), Bernie aka Charmer (Hamid), great-grandchildren Will, Viola and Finley. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 20 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home, 4115 Lawrence Ave. E., West Hill M1E 2S2. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21 at St. Margaret's in the Pines Anglican Church, 4130 Lawrence Ave. E., West Hill, M1E 2R8. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks donations be directed to The Scarborough Hospital - Birchmount Campus (Grace Hospital) for their benevolent care.
