Johnny Strong passed away on January 25, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in Kentucky, and joined the Air Force immediately after graduating from high school. He was then transferred to the Truro Air Force Station where he met the love of his life, Joyce Perry. Together they raised four children while traveling to many states in his 20+ years in the service, but always kept their home in Provincetown and came back frequently until his Air Force retirement as Master Sargent in 1978. Provincetown was then his and his family’s full time home.
Johnny will be remembered for many reasons - his career in the military, his outstanding athletic gift for basketball for which to some he was a legend, his term as a member and Commander of the Provincetown VFW, and his generosity and community service. But for Johnny, his greatest accomplishment was raising his four daughters as well as being able to see his three beloved grandchildren grow into adults.
Predeceased by his wife, Joyce, and his two daughters, Kelley and Damianne, Johnny’s memory will be honored and cherished by his surviving family. His daughters Adrianne Holway, Johnna King and her husband Timmy, his grandchildren, Taylor Daley and her husband Nick, Brenna King, and Chase King, and his brother, Bo Strong, and many nieces and nephews, will deeply miss him.
Arrangements are being made for a graveside Veterans Military Honors Service at the Provincetown Catholic Cemetery and Celebration of Johnny’s Life to be held at a later date.
