Born on April 22, 1915 in Hardwick, VT, he was the son of the late Walter A. and Laura (Lameri) Rochelle.
In 1935, Arthur graduated from Quincy High School. He later attended Boston University’s School of Business Administration.
Arthur played for the South Quincy Trojans Baseball team when they won the Quincy City League Championships in 1936 and 1937. Known for his love of baseball, he followed the Boston Red Sox with great enthusiasm.
Arthur proudly served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He worked for Lincoln stores for 29 years, serving in various capacities including Divisional Merchandise Manager, General Merchandise Manager and Director of Stores. He was Vice President of the Sheridan-Lincoln Corporation. Arthur was a manager of three Howland’s Department Stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut and was promoted to Vice President of Howland Stores, Elmsford, NY. He also served as president of the South Shore Plaza Association.
Arthur was an avid golfer and was a former member of the Wollaston Golf Club and the Cranberry Valley Golf Club of Harwich. He was also a member of the New York Athletic Club, the Mid Cape Men’s Club, the Harwich Men’s Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Chatham.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his son in law, Richard Volpe.
Arthur leaves behind his loving wife of 72 years, Josephine (Sacchetti) Rochelle of Harwich; his son Arthur Rochelle and his wife, Diane of Dennis Port; his three daughters, Sandra Sarver and her husband, Leonard of Harwich, Cynthia Purpura and her husband, Frank of Sagamore Beach, Pamela Volpe of Braintree; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main Street in West Harwich.
A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Mount Wollaston Cemetery in Quincy.
