Penny Joan Wood

Penny Wood, 67, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA. A small graveside service will be held at Resthaven Cemetery on Saturday, May 1st, at 2:00 P.M.

Penny was born to Francis and Margaret Wood in La Crosse, WI on March 1, 1953. Penny graduated from Healy Memorial High School, Trempealeau, WI, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Penny was employed most of her adult life as a Residential Counselor at various group homes for the intellectually disabled in Des Moines. In her 40 years there she gave comforting direction and love to numerous clients, training them in everything from personal self-help, household and social skills to recreation, including Special Olympics. Penny loved spending time with her many friends and with family. She is deeply missed by all of them. Her other passion was her pets and any other pets or strays she came across.

Penny is preceded in death by her father and two sisters, Peggy Sasgen and Patricia Uhl.

Penny is survived by her mother, Margaret Wood, of Trempealeau, WI; brother, Peter Wood (Karen) of Madison, WI; three nephews and nieces, and four grandnephews.
