Peggy Joy Rhiner, 86, passed away Monday, February 21, 2022. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2022 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at McLaren’s with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery.
Peggy was born September 29, 1935 in Creston, IA to Rodrick and Althea “Sally” Clough Williams. After graduating Urbandale High School in 1953, she married Howard “Chub” Rhiner and had a loving marriage for 32 years. She worked as a bookkeeper and as a mother to Kim (McCarl) and Rod Rhiner. Peg was a light among the darkness, bringing smiles, support and prayer to everyone around her. Even when her health held her back from being at church, she continued to have a thankful and grateful heart. Peg was a fierce prayer warrior that enjoyed activities such as: horseback riding, reading her Bible, going to her grandchildren’s sporting events, watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S, and listening to Barbara Streisand. Peg “Gaga” had a true heart of giving and would always buy her grandchildren two gifts; “one for each hand.” She became “Gaga 16”; that number growing with each new addition, proudly shown on her license plate. Even though she had many health issues, she would always use them to point people to God’s faithfulness. She loved Jesus and wanted everyone to believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Peg is survived by her daughter, Kim McCarl; son, Rod (Ronnie); grandchildren, Terry (Gretchen) McCarl, Trevor (Nicole) Rhiner, Mitch (Olivia) McCarl, Bailey Disko, Mason (Ashley) McCarl, Shelby Rhiner; great grandchildren, Dominic, Kaylee, Toby and LeeAnn McCarl, Dean and Lucy Rhiner; and great-great grandson Walker McCarl; best friend, Jean Kelly; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; son-in-law, Tommy McCarl; brother, Robert (Ginger) Williams; and sister, Patty Noble.
