Maxine F. Cronin, 100, of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. A funeral Mass will be celebrated the following day, Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
Maxine was born on October 27, 1924, in Decorah, Iowa, to Michael and Lorena (Thoman) Walsh. As the youngest of 10 children, she was showered with love and affection from the moment she was born. In return, she became a steadfast pillar of support for her family, inspiring admiration and respect from everyone around her.
Maxine married the love of her life, Myles (Red) Cronin on May 23, 1944. Together they built a beautiful family founded on love and devotion. Maxine's greatest joy was raising her children and staying actively involved in every aspect of their lives. She was a devoted and passionate mother who dedicated herself to her family, attending their activities and ensuring they felt supported and loved.
She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Maxine also volunteered at Fountain West Nursing Home, where she shared her time and warmth with residents. She was a cherished friend to many and will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the deep bonds she formed with those fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who called her "Aunt Max" and considered her a best friend.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of Woodlands Creek for the exceptional care and love they provided Maxine, making her feel truly at home in her final years. A special thank you to Suncrest Hospice for the wonderful care, and especially Tara, who was so loving and kind.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Foster; son, Michael Cronin; daughters, Kathleen Cronin, Mary Jo (Rick) Davis, and Maureen (Ray) Fielder; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Myles; three brothers; six sisters; her grandson, Jamie; and son-in-law, Ron Foster.
