Joel Philip Bohnenkamp, 40, passed away Friday, August 5, 2022 at MercyOne West hospital in West Des Moines. A Celebration of Life will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2022 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, at a later date.
Joel, the son of Jim and Carol (Wermes) Bohnenkamp, was born March 31, 1982 in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended elementary school in Sioux City and graduated from Valley High School West Des Moines in 1999. Joel enjoyed playing the guitar and was an avid trivia player. He was very private and set in his ways but also very kind.
Joel is survived by his parents; brother, Tim (Jennifer); niece, Lamaya Ewing; and nephews, Nolan and Alec Bohnenkamp. He was preceded in death by his infant nephew, Dylan Bohnenkamp; paternal grandparents, Amos and Bernie Bohnenkamp; and maternal grandparents, Don and Dorothy Wermes.
