Ida JoAnn Bandelier Carman, 84, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines from complications of COPD and congestive heart failure. A Memorial Service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at 1 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
JoAnn was born April 22, 1927 in New Haven, Indiana to Harold and Ethel (Bolyard) Bandelier. JoAnn graduated from New Haven High School in 1944. She worked in accounting at Amoco Credit Card Center. JoAnn was a member of the Women’s International Bowling Association, 600 Club, and Nebraska 600 Club and participated in the National Bowling Tournament throughout the United States for over 30 years. She married Oscar L. Carman in Omaha, Nebraska on July 17, 1948. JoAnn enjoyed bowling, gardening, bird watching, fishing, camping, cooking, winning at scrabble and being a mom, grandmother and friend.
JoAnn is survived by her six children, Frederick (Joyce) Carman of Moline, Illinois, Stanley Carman of Omaha, Nebraska, Maro Lee (Alfie) Miller of Manilla, Iowa, Barry (Debra) Carman of Omaha, Nebraska, Damon Carman of Omaha, Nebraska and Michelle “Shelly” (Richard) Argumedo of Des Moines, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Francis “Ike” (Joan) Bandelier of Delphos, Ohio, Charles “Fat” (Helen) Bandelier of New Haven, Indiana, Marlene (Gene) Springer of New Haven, Indiana, Sandy (Carl) Frecker of Woodburn, Indiana and Cara Jane (Norm) Shipley of New Haven, Indiana and two sisters-in-law, Marcella Bandelier of Angola, Indiana and Doris Bandelier of New Haven, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 29 years, Oscar L. Carman; great-grandson, Caleb J. Carman; sister, Gracella Bauer and two brothers, Harold Junior and Howard Bandelier.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at McLaren’s Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to Make a Wish Foundation of Iowa (kick off for kid’s event) or the American Cancer Society.
