David Mark Ridgway, 61, died February 21, 2024 at Every Step Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at New Hope Assembly of God in Urbandale. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, at New Hope with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
David was born in Des Moines, IA, on May 29, 1962, to Forrest Leigh and Sandra Kay (Mosier) Ridgway. David graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines, IA, in 1980 before attending Iowa State University and receiving a BS in Agricultural Mechanization.
David was a jack of all trades and a master of many. Over the years he worked in home construction, trim carpentry, and spent many years at SuperValu Warehouse. Since 2006, he owned and operated his own pest control company, Midwest Pest Management, which is now run by his oldest son, Spencer. David married Rosemary Haag on May 12, 1990. Together they welcomed five children that meant the world to them.
David dedicated his life to furthering God’s Kingdom. He grew up at West Des Moines Open Bible, and he spent countless years coaching kids in Junior Bible Quiz, and leading Royal Rangers at First Assembly of God. He attended Journey Church for over a decade, serving as an elder, starting up a Royal Ranger outpost, serving on the prayer team, and volunteering in any and every way the church needed.
David had a passion for all kinds of woodworking. He loved specialty trim carpentry, furniture making, and Pine Wood Derby. David loved his dog, Maverick, the Drake Observatory, cribbage, the Iowa State Fair, the Granger Assumption Fish Fry, watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Hogan’s Heroes. His favorite movie was “It’s a Wonderful Life” which he could quote word-for-word.
Despite receiving an advanced cancer diagnosis in August 2022, he maintained great faith and positive outlook, praising God to the very end. His greatest joy during this time was watching his family grow. Since his diagnosis, he gained a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law, and four grandsons.
David was preceded in death by his father, Forrest “Cap” Ridgway and sister-in-law, Brenda Haag. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Haag) Ridgway; children, Natalie (Alex) Larson, Spencer (Maria) Ridgway, Sophia (Sam) Fletcher, Clarissa Ridgway, Joseph Ridgway; and four grandsons, Noah, Leif, Harvey, and Sven; mother, Sandra (Mosier) Ridgway; brothers, Forrest (Laura) Ridgway and Jeff (Connie) Ridgway; sisters Janelle (Steve) Foster and Julie (David) Barner; mother-in-law, Frances Haag; father-in-law, Gary (Joni) Haag; sisters-in-law, Laurie (Brett) Banister and Carrie (David) Murdoch; brothers-in-law, Phillip Haag; and step-sister-in-law, Angie (Carlos) Wilder. In addition, David had 32 nieces and nephews, and 20 great nieces and nephews (with 4 more on the way).
Memorial contributions may be directed to Journey Church Royal Ranger Outpost #101.
