David D. Olney, age 77, of Johnston, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. Services will be held at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel on Friday, October 11th with a visitation at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. A private family placement will take place at the Resthaven Cemetery Mausoleum at a later date.
David (along with his twin brother, Dennis) was born on June 27, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa to Leo and Ruby (Troutfetter) Olney. He enjoyed sports, whether that was cheering on the Chicago Cubs or refereeing soccer. David was an avid cribbage player. He was active in and traveled to (ACC) American Cribbage Congress tournaments around the country. David and his twin, Dennis, participated in the (VETSA) Vietnam Era Twin Study of Aging. He worked more than 35 years with the US Postal Service. After retirement David worked part-time as a bus driver for the Southeast Polk, and Johnston school districts.
Family was very important to David and left to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 years, Connie; sons, Joe and Steve (Carly) Olney; grandchildren, Cooper, Kinnick, Kinsley, and Everly; siblings, Joyce (Dennis) Hatfield and Dennis (Sharon) Olney; nieces and nephews, Diane, Mike, Sue, Carole, Denise, and Debra; and his beloved cat, Charlie. David was preceded in death by his parents.
