Christopher Roy Garcia, born October 12, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Chris was the beloved son of the late Roy John Garcia Sr. and Lucille Gloria Rivera.
Chris is survived by his devoted wife, Myrna Julitta Garcia of Woodward, Iowa, and his siblings: Greg Garcia (Ann), Roy Garcia (Cheri), Theresa Stork (Jim), and Jeff Garcia (Krista). He also leaves behind the mother of his children Jeanette and his kids Angela Giudicessi (BJ), Joe Garcia (Lisa), Megan Koehlmoos (Lonny), Sarah Garcia (Adam), Nathaniel Garcia (Dyani), and stepson Eric Blumanhourst (Aja). Chris was a proud and loving grandfather to Averi, Cole, Emma, JT, Charlee, Nora, Dawson, Payton, Dylynn, Scarlett, Alexander, and Isaac. He also leaves behind hundreds of beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Garcia Sr.; his mother, Lucille Rivera; his stepmother Lupe Garcia (Diaz), his brother, Larry Garcia, sister in-law, Jean Salazar; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Garcia, and nephew Andrew Garcia.
On July 16, 2004, Chris married the love of his life, Myrna, in Des Moines, Iowa. Together, they shared a life filled with joy, raising hunting dogs, fishing, traveling, horseback riding, camping, spending time with their grandchildren, and cheering on their sports teams. Chris had a passion for raising cattle and taking care of his acreage.
He was a proud alum of Dowling High School, Class of 1966. Chris dedicated his professional career to serving his community as a gas serviceman for MidAmerican Energy. He enjoyed sharing his faith and life story and learning from others as an Uber driver in retirement. He was a valued member of the Iowa Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 499 and was deeply involved in the Central Committee of the Dallas County Republican Party. Chris’s unwavering faith was evident in his love for Jesus, his church, and church family at New Hope Assembly of God Church in Urbandale.
A visitation will be at New Hope Assembly of God Church, 4425 70th St, Urbandale, IA 50322 from 5-7 PM Monday, November 25th. A celebration of Chris’s life will be held at New Hope Assembly of God Church at 9 AM Tuesday, November 26th burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Chris will forever be remembered for his kind heart, deep faith, and steadfast devotion to his family.
Chris was deeply grateful for the gift of 46 additional years, made possible by the selfless generosity of his four kidney donors; his brothers Larry and Jeff as well as two individuals that he never met. Amazingly he came full circle, offering the gift of time to another by donating his liver to an unknown recipient.
