Barbara R. Derby, 90, died on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines, IA. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017, at McLaren’s with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Barbara was born August 24, 1926 in Keota, IA. She graduated from Keota High School, Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, IA. On September 24, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Derby in Des Moines, IA. They lived most of their married life in West Des Moines, IA.

Barbara was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, West Des Moines Women’s Club, Iowa Methodist Nurse’s Club, and West Des Moines United Methodist Church. She was employed as school nurse for 18 years in the West Des Moines School District.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert. She is survived by her children, Craig (Marcia) Derby of Johnston, Marcia (Ray) Jones of Winterset, Carla (Tom) Brignac of Richmond, VA, and Mary (Johnny) Enriquez of Galveston, TX; grandchildren, Kandy (Brian) Hartzell, Garth (Carrie) Jones, Erin (Jeremy) Hunt, Ryan (Jennifer) Derby, Danny Enriquez, Carrie Enriquez, Darby Brignac, Logan (Ally) Derby, Andrew Brignac, and Patrick Enriquez; and great grandchildren, Louis Jones, Hank Jones, Eily Jones, Emily Derby, Katie Derby, Garrett Derby, Leah Hunt, and Reid Hunt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa Wesleyan University-Division of Nursing, West Des Moines United Methodist Church, or HCI-Hospice Care Services.
