Gina Elizabeth Sturtevant, 67, passed peacefully after a courageous battle with lung cancer, Thursday, December 12th at the Lily House in Wellfleet, MA with her family by her side. Gina, who was a lifetime “Wellfleetian”, was born to Evelyn and Floyd Pickard, Jr. on Cape Cod, November 26, 1957.
After graduating from Nauset Regional High School, she attended the Business Program at Johnson & Wales College in RI, later working in hospitality. Her true calling was being a caregiver and nurturer. She worked the Wellfleet Elementary School teaching the essentials needed in life. Nurturing and supporting the children with kindness and compassion as they played, did crafts and learned the essence of patience and sharing during their daily academic routine. The pinnacle of Gina’s calling was caring for the Elders while working at Pleasant Bay in Brewster and at The Terraces in Orlean, MA. At the beginning of her night shifts, she would enter the patient’s room with her lit flashlight, lean towards them and announce, “This is Gee and my trusty flashlight!” and would ask, “Is there anything you need?” This simple act of kindness set a calming presence for the night!
Her primary role was being a “Mom” raising her two sons and daughter, Kevin, Kurt and Corinne. The love of her life was caring for and being around her two granddaughters, Valletta and Keria Sturtevant, and Corinne. Gramie Gina spent hours crafting and baking with her granddaughters and Corinne during “Girls’ Over Nights & Weekends”. She shared with the girls her gift for creating and designing ornaments for the garden and Christmas trees. Gina’s savory baked goods were coveted by many friends / family not only did they nourish and support the body, but warmed their soul. Gina is survived by Kevin and his wife, Stephanie; Kurt and partner, Shelly Costa, and granddaughters Valletta and Keria; Corinne; her sisters: Arna McNamee; Lana and husband, Tim McNamee; Denise Patterson and partner, Brent O’Neal; brothers: Floyd and wife, Linda Pickard; and Lloyd Pickard; along with 37 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents.
Her visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 340 Main Street, Wellfleet, MA. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 1:30pm in the Wellfleet United Methodist Church, 246 Main Street, Wellfleet, MA.
Through six decades of showing little acts of love, and compassion to others, Gina reaped an “Ocean” of friends. It is these friends our families thank you for all the years of friendship with Gina.
