Surrounded by family Richard “Dick” Fagan went to be with our Lord on February 23rd 2015 after a brief illness. Dick was born on the 20th of Oct 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa; the second child of James and Ruth Fagan. Dick graduated from Roosevelt High School in Jan 1945 two years later he met the love of his life Jean Wallace and were married in 1947. Dick had a full life and was a proud American devoting his life to public service. He joined the Army in Feb 1945 and served in the south pacific theater of operations at the end of WWII. After his service in the Army he remained a civilian until he again felt the call of public duty and in 1950 joined the 132nd Tactical Fighter Wing, Iowa Air National Guard. He completed 30 plus years of service with the guard achieving the rank of CMSgt, and was a full time air technician. With his last three years of military service he accepted an active duty position with the National Guard Bureau in the Panama Canal Zone, acting as the guard liaison between the active duty and guard in support of Operation “Coronet Cove”. His leisure time was spent with his family playing golf, bowling, and fishing. His retirement years were spent tinkering around the house and enjoying his grandchildren. Dick will be missed by all. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth and brother Jimmy, wife Jean and son Richard. Dick leaves behind his sister-in-law, Virginia Wallace; daughter, Julie and wife, Cindy; son Michael and wife, Amy. Grandchildren Christina and husband, James; Christopher and wife, Saundra; Jonathan and wife, Blanca; Jennifer and husband, Christian; April and husband Joshua; Jared and wife Amber; Amanda and husband Jason; Alison, Michael, Eryn, and nineteen great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the “Wounded Warrior Project”.
