Patricia Ann Mitchell Young

Pat was born October 23, 1937, in Lebanon, Missouri to Mildred and Merle Mitchell. She grew up in Missouri where her father was a minister, and her mother was active in both the church and the local community. Pat made a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized in 1946. Throughout her life, Pat had a passionate love for music from an early age and excelled playing the clarinet, piano, and organ. She attended Baylor University where she was a member of the Baylor University Golden Wave Marching Band, the Baylor Religious Hour Choir, and the Baptist Student Union. While attending Baylor, she was set up on a blind date with Wayne Young, who would become the love of her life. Pat and Wayne dated after college while she was attending Southwest Seminary. They were married in 1961, moved to Houston in 1962 where Wayne joined NASA, and began calling Nassau Bay their home in 1968. Pat and Wayne were members of Nassau Bay Baptist and then became members of University Baptist Church in Clear Lake where Pat played the organ, sang in the choir, and played in the handbell choir. Over the years, while raising three boys, Pat taught piano to numerous students. She took great joy in teaching and loving her students.

Pat loved Christ and wanted to always make sure those around her felt loved and appreciated. In her later years, Pat felt her ministry was to simply love and listen to anyone who had time to talk. She was loved by all who had the fortune to encounter her and while she will be missed, we are thankful that she is now a member of the heavenly choir.

Pat is preceded in death by her husband, R. Wayne Young. She is survived by her 3 sons, Steve and his wife Lisa Young, Matt Young, and David and his wife Trisha Young; grandchildren, Mitchell and his wife Halle, William, Brian, Brantley and his wife Jenna, Braden, Drew and Kate; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Grayson.

A visitation with the family will be held on Friday, August 16th from 4:00- 6:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster, Texas. A Celebration service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17th, at University Baptist Church, 16106 Middlebrook Drive, Houston, Texas 77059.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Pat’s name to University Baptist Church with a designation of “The Music Ministry”, the Arthritis Foundation, the American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice.
