Born on March 21, 1945, to William Edward and Hattie Armstrong Davis of Pocatello, Idaho, LaVern attended local public schools until graduating from Pocatello High School in May 1963. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he became a Reactor Operator on a Nuclear Submarine. On May 1969 LaVern entered the University Of Utah Engineering School with a full Navy Scholarship. In June 1973 he graduated Cum Lade in Mechanical Engineering and was commissioned as Ensign. LaVern met and married Lila L. Doga on May 21, 1977, while serving on the USS George Washington SSBN 598 at Mare Island, Naval Ship Yard in Vallejo, California. LaVern and Lila made their home in Honolulu, Hawaii until LaVern retired from the Navy in Bremerton, Washington with a ceremony on board the USS Missouri Battle Ship in June 1983. He and his wife relocated to Syracuse, New York in December 1983 to work for General Electric Corporation’s Underwater Electronics Acquisitions. He retired from Lockheed Martin Corporation in Houston, Texas in October 1998. They moved to their home in League City, Texas in 2001. In 2003, after reading the Holy Bible, LaVern joined the Holy Catholic Church. He was Baptized into the ‘Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ’ on April 10, 2004. He loved his Church and fellow members. He believed it was the most important achievement of his life. In 2005 he was a Capitan of his precinct for Governor Elections.
