Joshua Taylor Betthauser

Joshua Taylor Betthauser passed away suddenly at his home in Friendswood, Texas on January 3, 2020. He was born on July 6, 2001, in Nassau Bay, Texas. Joshua was a gift from God to his parents Mary Ann Dillehay Betthauser and John Betthauser.

Joshua grew up in Friendswood. A senior at Friendswood High School, Joshua participated in football, wrestling, and powerlifting. Other interests included writing poetry, reading, and psychology. Joshua loved to draw as well. He looked forward to graduation.

As a member of Troop 445, Joshua participated in the Scouting program, as well as Sea Scouts. He enjoyed improving his boating skills. Joshua embraced the Scout Oath of duty to God and country. Joshua was very patriotic, loved the flag and what it represented. He loved Wreaths Across America. His love and respect for the military sparked a desire to become a marine and fight for his country.

Joshua had a kind heart. Quietly he gave community service, particularly during Hurricane Harvey. He helped with high water rescues and cleanup. When a tornado came through his neighborhood, Joshua cleared drains in spite of pouring rain and floodwater.

Over the years Joshua enjoyed traveling with his mother, and particularly loved the mountains in Colorado where he hoped to eventually live. They hiked together, attended many University of Houston football games, and recently took a special trip to New Orleans where a memorable photo was taken under The Tree of Life. Like that tree, Joshua holds a special place in the heart of his mother, father, and all those that love him. He will forever be missed. Only the Balm of Gilead can soothe and heal us as the song states, “When your soul was full of sorrow, Balm of Gilead did you borrow….” We have been promised, “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” (John 14:18)

Joshua is survived by his mother, father, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents James and Gladys Dillehay, and Mike and Marge Betthauser.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, 77598. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 10:00 am at Hope Lutheran Church, 1804 S Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546 with interment to follow.
