Hugh P. McLaughlin, 83, of League City, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024. Born on January 13, 1941, in Carneys Point, New Jersey, Hugh lived a life devoted to family, faith, integrity, and hard work.
Hugh was a proud graduate of St. James High School in Carneys Point and went on to attend LaSalle College in Philadelphia. He dedicated 33 years to Amoco Chemicals/BP, with roles in New Castle, Delaware, and Chocolate Bayou, Texas, before retiring at the age of 53.
Hugh spent the first 40 years of his life in Salem County, New Jersey, and the last 43 years in League City, Texas, leaving a lasting impact on both communities. A devout Catholic, he was deeply involved with Queen of Apostles Catholic Church in New Jersey and later St. Mary's Catholic Church in League City. His faith extended to service, notably as a Pre Cana leader at Queen of Apostles and in volunteer work at St. Mary's Food Pantry, always eager to help those in need.
After retirement, Hugh found joy on the golf course, playing 4-5 days a week. He was a long-time member of Bay Forest Golf Club in La Porte, Texas, where he formed lasting friendships and enjoyed the camaraderie the game brought.
Known for his dry sense of humor and quick wit, Hugh brought laughter to everyone who knew him. His sharp one-liners and subtle jokes lightened even the toughest moments, a trait that endeared him to many throughout his life.
Above all, Hugh’s greatest pride was his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he always put his loved ones first. He cherished time spent with his family, especially during vacations in Ocean City, New Jersey, where countless cherished memories were made.
Hugh is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Costello McLaughlin; his children, Hugh McLaughlin Jr. and wife Diane, Frank McLaughlin, and Robin Stanaland and husband Eddie; his grandchildren, Shannon McLaughlin, Hugh McLaughlin III, Bridget McLaughlin, Frank McLaughlin Jr., Lauren Kelly and husband Sean, and Kacey Conway and Husband Justin; his great-grandchildren, Colton Kelly and Carter Kelly; his sister, Mary Jane Hudock; sister-in-law, Rowe Wyshinski and husband Paul; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ben and Mary McLaughlin; his brothers, John and Benny McLaughlin; and his sisters, Cissie McKie and Shirley Haines.
Hugh will be remembered not only for his deep love for his family, strong sense of duty, and steadfast faith but also for his humor, quick wit, and generous spirit. His legacy of kindness, loyalty, and joy will continue to inspire those who loved him.
