Helen worked diligently as a bus driver and Driver Coordinator for Easthaven Baptist School for many years and then became a Credit Analyst for Sears Roebuck Corporation. She resigned in 1990 to care for her husband, Travis, and help care for her grandchildren. She was a woman of strong faith who loved Jesus and her church, Easthaven Baptist now known as South Belt Church, and raised her four children in the church where they all developed their own strong faith in Christ. She was involved in The Senior Adult ministry which included singing and playing the ukulele in the King’s Strings Ukulele Band who traveled far and wide to bring laughter and joy to senior adults all over East Texas. She had a beautiful soprano voice and enjoyed singing in the choir at church. She loved traveling with a little group of friends going all over the US enjoying God’s creation and being entertained by shows and each other. She loved to read and often finished 3-4 books per week. But mostly, she loved her family. And we are blessed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Carol VanderHamm, only sibling and brother Everitt VanderHamm, and her husband of 35 years, Travis Clyde Taylor.
She is survived by her children: Rebecca Welch (Husband Larry), Beth, Jon (Wife Lisa), and Merle (Wife Melanie), Grandchildren: Cara Jacques (Husband Roland), Christi Williams (Husband Michael), Sarah Drennan (Husband Marshall), Cortney Powell (Husband Seth), Travis Taylor (Wife Tiffany) and Britton Taylor (Wife Na-Na), Great-grandchildren: Amber Garcia (Husband Matthew), Autumn Jacques, Maximus Williams, Alexander Williams, Luke Drennan, Norah Drennan, Wyatt Powell, Weston Powell, Wayne Taylor, Warren Taylor, Waverly Taylor and Willa-Jane Taylor, and Great-great grandchild, Aslan Garcia.
