Fred Z. King was born November 30th, 1947, in Nederland, Texas and departed this life December 8th, 2024. His loving wife Sandra (Sandy) of 44 years was at his side until he lost his valiant battle with ALS.
Fred graduated from Nederland High School in Nederland, Texas and from there served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. After leaving the service, he worked for NASA and then Rohm & Haas Company for the remainder of his career until retirement.
His children, Natalie King Whatley and Zac King will forever miss and remember his steadfast presence in their lives and how he taught them so much about life, family, and love.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will always remember the kid at heart their PawPaw was, and the many hours spent playing video games, trips to water parks and museums, gardening and canning foods and enjoying his famous green beans.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred D. King and Joyce B. King both of Nederland, Texas, and son Gene Shepler of Houston.
Left to cherish Fred's memory are:, Sandra King; brother Frank King and wife Linda King, sister Peggy King; children Natalie King Whatley and husband Jeff, Fred Z. King, Jr. (Zac) and wife Melanie; nieces Julie King and Cathleen King Sainz, grandchildren , Jarek Whatley (Kayla), Madison King, Jeremy Whatley, Erin Whatley (Zack), Meagan King Carter (Dylan) and Rylie King; great-grandchildren Katelyn, Keegan and Tristan; and his special fur-baby girls Kera and Buddy.
The family will forever be grateful to his special caregiver Sandi Romero. She joined his ALS journey early and stayed to the end offering special care and compassion rarely seen in friends and medical professionals.
Special thanks to the Veterans Administration, and the many caregivers who were there supporting the family along the difficult path that is ALS.
