Donald was born in Boston, MA, to Harold and Hazel Osgood on January 18, 1927; their only child. He grew up in Massachusetts, with summers in Maine. He served in the Navy during World War II, then graduated from MIT in 1950. He married Catherine Thompson in 1955, and they have three children.
He joined NASA in 1959, traveling around the world to install the space vehicle tracking network. He worked for NASA until 1980, then for space contractors. He was active in conservation efforts, helping to monitor water in Armand Bayou, and he served for several years in the Civil Air Patrol.
He is survived by his wife Catherine; children Donna (Sibbald), Rodger and Linda; and grandchildren Phillip, Carolyn, Ethan and Joelle. Services will be private.
