Born July 27, 1953 in Mobile, Alabama, Cindy attended public schools as a child and graduated in the top ten seniors from B.C. Rain High School after serving as a class representative, working on the school annual, and receiving awards in home economics. After graduation, she completed her nursing certification at the Mobile Infirmary School of Nursing and received the Katherine White-Spunner award for outstanding nursing graduates. Cindy worked as a registered nurse until her early retirement in 1992.
She met Dan Mooney, the love of her life, on a blind date set up by his cousin Anne Jolly in December 1972. The two married on October 23, 1976 and recently celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary. They had two sons, Jason and Joshua. She considered her sons to be her greatest achievements in life, as she battled through two difficult pregnancies to bring them into the world. Dan and Cindy built a life together in Atlanta, Mobile, Charleston, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and finally Pearland as they moved first to support Dan’s federal engineering career and eventually to be nearer their children and grandchildren.
In every place they lived, there were two constant themes in Cindy’s life: a fierce love for her family and service to Jesus through His holy church. Cindy was involved in a myriad of church and school-related service activities: worship ministry, teaching Sunday School, small groups, leading children’s church, and serving Meals on Wheels. She was also a Cub Scout den mother and band mom extraordinaire, always ready to help with marching uniforms, serve food, or chaperone field trips.
Cindy’s hobbies included cross-stitch, quilting, reading, and most recently, genealogy. Her hours of research have unearthed many treasured pieces of information. She always made holidays a magical time for her family, whether it was helping construct an elaborate “haunted house” in the garage, baking hundreds of cookies, setting out carrots for Santa’s reindeer, or passing down treasured Thanksgiving recipes from both sides of the family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Vincent Westcott and mother, Reba Kathryn McDole Westcott. Cindy is survived by her beloved husband Dan; her sister Sheryll Hall and husband Rayford; son Jason Mooney and wife Tamara; son Joshua Mooney and wife Meredith; grandchildren Andrew, Meaghan, Olivia, and Owen Mooney; and Willie, her faithful West Highland White Terrier.
